Transforming Fashion/DMA

Everyone in Dallas is trying to escape the extreme Texas heat wave,  so I've got the perfect afternoon solution. You must visit the DMA/Dallas Museum of Art for the wild and some might say "wierd" couture fashions from Iris Van Herpen only on display until August 20th. I have followed this line for year as the designer studied under Alexander McQueen and I'm always amazed at her use of fabrics and materials. Some so out there like the "bird" dress that is made from plastic but seems to float of the runway, too the metal clade outfits that have a warrior strength to them. So ck out just a glemps into this designers mad mind soon before the exhibition closes, you won't want to miss it!

The MET

Every year I can't wait for the exhibit at the Met in NYC following the Met Gala but this collection blew my mother mind. Of course any one that know fashion knows about Comme Des Garçons and the volume of fashion! I have so many of the pieces that are on display that this year had a specialness that hit home (well my closet) at least. If you have a chance to make it up to the city this summer it is worth the wait to see how each season builds apon it self and blends so seamlessly! Tip: Buy your tickets on line to avoid the wait!

Tadashi Shoji F/w17

Jewel tones, crushed velvet, floral and fur made its way down the catwalk for Tadashi Shoji F/w17. I totally felt I was being transported to the days of Studio 54 with the opulent fashions and pumping music; all we were missing was a cameo from Liza and Andy! I loved seeing the strong presence of the suit especially in saturated velvets and trimmed out in gold with a slight kick to the pant! The use of fur was subtle but very effective as a trim on a coat in the babiest of pink, or as a scarf draped over an evening dress! Everyone knows I die over sequins so the rose gold full sparkle gown was a BIG hit in my book! My advice to keep on trend is grab some more textured pieces (suede, fur, velvet) for your wardrobe - it's so easy!

Amfar NYC

Heidi, Nina, Brad, Jeremy, Naomi, Scarlett, Kenneth, Donatella, Diane, and Alan to name just a few of the people who were at Cipriani's on Wall Street for the AMFAR NYC Gala. The auction Items included photos of Dame Liz Taylor that Donatella purchased, plus diamond and ruby earrings that Scarlett had to have. The items both went for well over $40k each, but the item that brought down the house was a vending machine made by Moët Champagne that was filled with almost 400 mini bottles. That fetched 90k - too steep for my pocket book! They wrapped up the night with a performance by pop star Ellie Goulding who got the crowd on their feet! What a glamourous evening that will definitely go down in the books as one of the best fundraisers to attend, not to mention most charitable!

Extra Padding

Trend alert, during men's fashion week Paris's food always promises to pack a pound or two on you through the week but, just incase you need some extra padding to keep you warm several designers showed quilted jackets and bombers to fashionably do the trick! Dries time after times shows a silky nylon (very tech) strolling down his runway this time with a bit more volume! Speaking of volume, Rick Owens was a must watch with tons of large shapes that keeped me interested! Issey showed trend in Navy with a slightly longer shape, while Sacai gave us a softer material with their choice of fabrics in velvet which I kinda love! What a fun shape coming our way!

Paris Men

Well, Paris Men's Fashion Week is in FULL swing and I'm needing my pomme fries and champagne from the Coste! UGH!!! Dries van Noten is always one of my go to designers and they served up great oversized collection filled with just the right amount of embellishments. My Passion!! Loewe and that sheerling coat need I say more. The soft hues of mouve came from AcneStudios and Haider A shocked us with his shades of pink walking the catwalk! Finally the use of fabrics from Rochas was incredible plus seamless transitions from textured to shine was brilliant! Liking what I'm seeing boys!!

KAWS IN DALLAS

Well, if you haven't had a chance to see the KAWS exhibition at The Modern in Fort Worth you have until Jan 22, and it is a must see! The NYC base artist got his start working as a freelancer at Disney, but  his graffiti style art has been seen through the world from Paris too Tokyo! I had to ck out some of the oversized sculptures that I've only seen in toy versions and I was overwhelmed! My Gucci towering platforms fit in perfectly plus my Margiela outfit blended with KAWS animation themed works of art! Please, you will be sorry if you miss this amazing gift brought to you by Fort Worth Modern.

AMFAR LA

Well, I'm about to head back to NYC for fashion week and attend the Amfar gala at Cipriani! My last trip was to La for a couple of plastic surgery consults, Amfar, and the British Film Awards! Amfar was star studded this year at Milk studio and hosted the likes of Dita, Courtney, Heide, and Charlize! I was wearing Givenchy and Lanvin to the event, but think fur is in order for the BIG apple! Ck out amfar.org for all the scoop! Miss talking to everyone!

LA Baby

Last weekend I made a quicky to LA to celebrate one of my favorite friend's birthday. She booked the MR.C hotel which is from the famed Cipriani brothers, all suites with views of Beverly Hills. I had a couple of plastic surgery consults after arriving then a delicious lunch at Fred's at Barneys.  Wow, what a view if you haven't experienced dining there!  That night was dinner at the new hot spot Norah then on to a young hip rooftop bar E.P.&L.P..  The next day we lunched at Chateau Marmont and then some more shopping down Rodeo Drive before heading to dinner at Ysabel in West Hollywood with a night cap back at our hotel!  Last day I met the girls for breakfast then parted ways; I then met other friends at The Ivy for the best enchiladas and then headed back home.  What a whirlwind trip, but I'm headed back for more fun in two weeks - can't wait.  In the meantime, I'll keep California dreaming!

Bruce in the Big D

Well, if you don't live in Dallas then you may not have heard but famed photographer Bruce Weber has an exhibit currently showing of his works through the years at the Dallas Contemporary.  We hopped down to the gallery last weekend to comb it out, and my oh my it is super expansive!  Some of Bruce's muses are shown such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Cara Delevingne as we learned he loves a super model; well who doesn't?  He also shows his love for the male figure, nude and clothed alike, and again who doesn't love that?  The Dallas Contemporary hosted a private dinner for donors and a cocktail party with Bruce himself for members and press launching his amazing collection!  So if you are in town this season, please stop by and give it a view as I'm positive it has something for everyone. The collection runs for a limited time so get your fancy ass down there!

Best of NYFW

Well, it's come and gone and everyone from editors to buyers and bloggers have left the big apple and are off to London! Some of my favorite collections this s/s 17 season are Rosie Assoulin and Thom Browne.  They both bring big looks from RA's mad floral prints to the extreme pant widths, and TB delivers trompe l-oeil with bold colors and great accessories! Libertine is never a disappointment with tons of patterns and crystal details. Proenza Schouler is bold in color choices with reds and blues and  many pieces trimmed out in ostrich feathers.  I'm in luv!

The fashion week promises not to be a let down!! Here are some photos from my fashion weeks past!

Showing off my Ashish in Las Vegas

David and I took a quick trip to Vegas to see Barbra Streisand at the new MGM arena (T-Mobile) that was a packed house even with temps soaring above 110!  I can't ever handle that kind of weather so we stayed in either a bar like "Press" at the Four Seasons or in ultra lux shopping centers like Crystals Center where I snagged myself an early B-Day gift!  I thought I would show the table hostess and black jack dealer a little love with my Ashish "No Bull 💩" sequin shirt for good luck!  Not an extra penny to bring home unfortunately so this trip became a financial bust!  But oh well, there's always another trip, but there's only one Bab's!

Santa Fe frendzy 1

I will admit I was a little apprehensive about taking a vacation to Santa Fe, New Mexico this summer as it's not our usual kind of trip.  So we booked our room at the Inn of the Anasazi as I knew it was a Rosewood property, and we love the Mansion on Turtle Creek with its great service! (Check out the list of Rosewood properties on line to pick yours).  We arrived with a welcoming gift bag of sweets like caramel corn, parmesan crisps, and homemade chocolate - yummy!  The manager remembered us from the Hotel Crescent Court and a random French class we took together at SMU! By the way, I still suck at French as a second language so David told me to work on English first before taking another! We unpacked and ran to Casa Sena which was a restaurant/cabaret where the waiter hopped up to the mic to do a Broadway tune in between serving dinner.  We then headed to Vanessies for a night cap to visit with one of David's friends...so fun.  The next day we had breakfast at Cafe Pasqual's and then did some shopping (bought a Yohji top) then an early dinner at The Shed before running to catch the shuttle to the opera to see Vanessa which is a must! Let you know a little more next time!

Luxury living

My residence in Dallas feels like a jewel box in the sky with an amazing view of the ever-growing city but when temperatures rise, I get itchy to travel!  My home away from home is NYC, and I'm always digging on staying at The Viceroy Hotel! It is so centrally located at W 57th Street just blocks from some of my favorite stores on Fifth Avenue like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Bergdorf Goodman! My recommendation with the hotel is to request a park view or better yet a room with its on terrace! So good! They are pet friendly which is a plus and the roof top bar is always a scene for those who like to linger into the wee hours! The rooms are small (as are most in NY) but well appointed with ways that maximize storage; however, the bathrooms are spacious with marble from wall to wall! Next time you're in the city, check them out! You will thank me!

Super chic stay

A Quickie in Arkansas

I haven't written in a while, but we've had a lot of stuff come up lately, and with that being said, I decided we needed a personal trip out of town! So we packed up in a rental (Hyundai in teal) and headed for Arkansas! This time it wasn't to visit family; it was to tour Bentonville and all the happenings of this hip little town! We stayed at 21c Museum Hotel which had an amazing art collection and a stellar bar & restaurant called "the Hive" where they served farm-to-table delectables and for desert they had a tower of sour apple cotton candy! YUM! The city was super quaint and even though it's the home of Walmart, there are several great things to see with the best being the Crystal Bridges Museum! I can't even describe how fantastic it is - very organic and modern in style even with a delicious restaurant that serves chicken and walffles and homemade grits for brunch! My favorite art piece is the Dolly by Andy Warhol which made the trip worth the 6 hour drive!

Mulberry in Motion

I just packed up my ponchos and stored all my furs because it was time to flip over the closest to spring! So the week I got to celebrate several birthdays and attend multiple cocktail parties while sporting one of my favorite labels Mulberry! Not to be mistaken for Burberry although both are from London and both are terribly chic most people aren't as familiar with designer Johnny Coca (formally w/ Celine) and this amazing line! They have done such collaborations with Alexa Chung and Cara Delevingne which has definitely made a lasting mark on fashion and retailing in general! I'm wearing a striped leather and pony hair coat by Mulberry paired with leather acne shorts, Roger Vivier rhinestone kickers, and a signature sparkled top by Markus Lupfur!

New take on Lanvin

The fashion world was shocked to hear the Albert Elbaz was stepping down from his successful run at Lanvin and Bouchar Jarrar was taking over! It was a much anticipated show during Fall 16 Paris fashion week so all the BIG hitters were sitting front row! I found it to be a strong collection filled with elements from classic Lanvin but spiced up with an eighties edge. Furs and ruffles seemed to be a carry over from earlier collections but even they seemed fresh and young! I can't wait to see how she grows with the line that already seemed tres chic!

Parisian Pink

During Paris fashion week the runways for a/w 16 were filled with excitement and shockingly trending with shades of pink! Haider Ackermann had an edgy take on the color in crush velvet jackets and tops and leggings in patterns and prints that felt like they where plucked straight from the eighties!  I'm kinda dying over it all! Junya Watanabe used the shade magenta in the oversized origami jackets and shrugs! Comme des Garçons also took the statement "Go Big Or Go Home" and brought it to life with baby doll pink patent leather capelets with Ruffles, Ruffles, and more Ruffles!  So beyond amazing as each piece is like art, I can't wait to see the capsule collection at Dover Street Market!

The women of Couture

The Schiaparelli haute couture show had an inspiration taken from a grand dinner party! The dresses had tons of movement each in their own way and also were embroidered with tea cups and tea pots plus vegetables and a great bib covered in a jeweled lobster! Such fun because the back drop even had white plates lined up and then the floor had a great pattern that played well with all of them. The other party was at the Jean Paul Gaultier show with a theme from the Palace Club in the late nineteen hundreds! The girls were clad in sequin robes with strong shoulders from great beaded dresses that proved each of these girls could hold court in the the iconic night club!
